SHARON SORKEN ECODYEING
A Creative Mind For Our Times
Sharon Sorken
ARTIST BIO
Eco dyeing is working with nature. Nothing is predictable. I use natural dyes, real leaves, and flowers for my printing on silk and wool. No two leaves print the same. Much depends on water, the sun, and the age of the plant and/or tree. Each piece I make is like a surprise gift!
I have been eco dyeing since September 2017. I continue to discover and learn new techniques. I am creating new colors using copper, tin, iron, and aluminum. Insects, fruits, and vegetables also give color. It is a never ending learning process.
I also enjoy teaching workshops in my Santa Fe studio or traveling to other locations. You can check my website for upcoming workshops.
This art does not come easy for me. I have advanced age related macular degeneration. I have been a knitwear designer, jewelry maker, and now eco dyer. Each time my eyesight changed I had to reinvent myself. So, I will work and share my craft for as long as possible. I hope you will join me!
